Tiki Jade Pendant

Tiki is the name of a male demigod that appears in ancient Polynesian mythology. The Maori tiki is thought of as a fertility symbol, even though tiki are male, many carvings show female reproductive organs. If you look closely at the detail you can sometimes identify common birth deformities (club foot etc.), the tiki when worn as a talisman is said to protect against such things. Presented in traditional manner on an adjustable cord necklet.

Jade (Greenstone or in Maori – Pounamu) is a beautiful stone, classed as semi-precious - its lustre improves with age as a result of being worn next to the skin. It can be either dark or light - from almost black-green, through greens, rust to light, - nearly white in colour. Given the name Greenstone by the first European explorers who came to New Zealand in the eighteenth century and saw the Maori people wearing Jade tiki and other ornaments.
