New Zealand Jade (Greenstone or in Maori – Pounamu) is a beautiful stone, classed as semi-precious - its lustre improves with age as a result of being worn next to the skin. It can be either dark or light - from almost black-green, through greens, rust to light, - nearly white in colour. Given the name Greenstone by the first European explorers who came to New Zealand in the eighteenth century and saw the Maori people wearing Jade tiki and other ornaments.

This is a really nice masculine piece with a matt finish and plaited cord thong with jade toggle fastening. The Hei Matau represents strength and determination and brings the wearer peace, prosperity and good health. Suggests a safe journey over water.
