In Moari mythology Koropepe has a bird like head and the body of an eel like creature and is the symbol of youth and new beginnings. Carved on both sides and presented in traditional manner on an adjustable plaited cord necklet.
Jade (Greenstone or in Maori – Pounamu) is a beautiful stone, classed as semi-precious - its lustre improves with age as a result of being worn next to the skin. It can be either dark or light - from almost black-green, through greens, rust to light, - nearly white in colour. Given the name Greenstone by the first European explorers who came to New Zealand in the eighteenth century and saw the Maori people wearing Jade tiki and other ornaments.
