Combined Pikoura and Koru Jade Pendant

Finely carved jade pendant combining two traditional designs, the Pikoura (or Twist) and the Koru (Spiral). The Pikoura, featured at the top of the pendant, depicts the joining together of two people for eternity, even though they may move away from each other they will always come together again sharing their lives and blending together in harmony. The Koru, featured in the lower parts of the design, is inspired by an unfurling fern frond as it opens bringing new life and purity to the world. It represents new life/beginnings, personal growth, positive change, awakening, peace, tranquillity and harmony. Pendant presented in traditional manner on an adjustable cord necklace.

Jade (Greenstone or in Maori – Pounamu) is a beautiful stone, classed as semi-precious - its lustre improves with age as a result of being worn next to the skin. It can be either dark or light - from almost black-green, through greens, rust to light, - nearly white in colour. Given the name Greenstone by the first European explorers who came to New Zealand in the eighteenth century and saw the Maori people wearing Jade tiki and other ornaments.
