The main birthstone for the month of December is turquiose (alternatives are blue topaz, zircon, lapis lazuli, onyx and ruby). Turquoise is opaque blue-to-green hydrated copper aluminium phosphate mineral. Rare and valuable in finer grades and has been enjoyed as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. Turquoise is also considered to be a profound master healer, strengthening the entire anatomy and aiding tissue regeneration. It is said that it increases serenitity, protection, meditation energy, wisdom, strength, friendship and love.
